Sonya:
As mentioned in my about me, I absolutely LOVE seafood. So Jax Fish House is right up my alley. I have been to Jax twice so far and I know I will continue to dine there. Jax has a great staff, awesome atmosphere and delicious food; it's everything I could want from a Fish House.
My first visit to Jax was for my 21st birthday, when I arrived they had a card waiting on the table for me with an offer for free peel n' eat shrimp at my next visit. This was such a nice gesture and a great way to start off the dining experience. I ended up coming back and redeeming that offer on my next visit. During that next visit to Jax, the waiter asked us to move over one table in order to accommodate a larger party. He told us that he would buy us free drinks for the inconvenience. This was not a big deal at all, we would have happily moved even without the offer for free drinks. This act just goes to show how accommodating the staff at Jax is, they really want to make you happy above anything else.
Jax has happy hour from 4pm-6pm daily, I definitely recommend going earlier and taking advantage of their cheaper drinks and appetizers. From the happy hour menu the calimari is definitely my favorite item. They are crispy, always come out hot and are absolutely to die for. The calimari comes with two sauces a mango-chile mojo and a lime aioli, both sauces are absolutely amazing. The mango-chile mojo is on the sweeter side and the lime aioli has more of a kick. The sauces complement the calimari perfectly and create just the right combination, although the calimari taste great on their own as well! They are a must-order every time I visit Jax. Other great happy hour items include the mussels and any of the mixed drinks, beers, or wines.
The one downside is the size and popularity of the restaurant, Jax is located on Pearl in a fairly small building. There is a large bar that takes up a lot of space so seating is limited. I actually really enjoy this cozy feeling and I think it gives Jax a unique atmosphere that is somewhere between a bar and a restaurant. However, this does mean that you almost always need to make a reservation before stopping by, especially if you want to dine during happy hour. In my opinion this is a small price to pay for the amazing experience and delicious food you are sure to have here.
