Brigitte:
Pizzeria Locale is probably one of my favorite restaurants here in Boulder. Everything from the appetizers, to the pizza, to the dessert is unreal. Pizzeria Locale was created by the owners of Frasca Food and Wine which is located right next door. Sous chef Jordan Wallace was sent to Naples, Italy to learn the art of Neapolitan pizza making. He returned to Boulder with all his culinary and pizza expertise and is now the Executive Chef of Pizzeria Locale.
I have been to this restaurant many times, trying many different dishes. For appetizers, the arancino risotto balls are very good. But my favorite is the polpettine pork meatballs topped with walnut pesto. My mouth is watering just thinking about these juicy balls of goodness. These meatballs are so juicy that they melt in your mouth and the walnut pesto is a perfect touch that you want to just lick the plate clean.
What is unique about this pizza place is that when the pizza comes out, you must cut it yourself. Some people may find this annoying but I found it very traditional and unique. It makes you slow down and really enjoy the flavors of the ingredients. There are two types of pizza's: Le Bianche (white pizza) and Le Rosse (red pizza). I could not tell you which is my favorite because they are all amazing. To top it all off, you must not forget the chili oil to dip your crust in, it has the perfect amount of spice!
Lastly, if there is still room, I would highly recommend the Budino for dessert. It is a butterscotch pudding that is topped with cream. It is the perfect amount of sweetness and creaminess to satisfy your taste buds.
