Sonya:
Sushi Zanmai is all about the experience and not as much about the food. I absolutely love sushi so I have tried a lot of different sushi restaurants, Sushi Zanmai is definitely not the best of the best. However, I feel like it is worth a post simply because of the experience.
This restaurant is known for saki bombing (dropping hot saki into beer), they also give you the option to purchase headbands for $5 which simply adds to the fun. They bring out pitchers of beer and hot saki and customers are welcome to be as rowdy as they please. They have tea rooms where guests sit on cushions around the table, I have never actually dined in one of these rooms but they look like a lot of fun and offer an added element to the Zanmai experience. Large groups are easily accommodated which makes the restaurant a great place for parties.
The food is average at best, I do enjoy starting with the seasoned edamame and the Rocky Roll (eel and avocado) is pretty tasty. If you are looking for a high class sushi experience I wouldn't recommend Sushi Zanmai, but if you are looking to have a fun time with friends this is definitely the place to go!
